Fancy a stroll…………

James had wanted to go to the Pinnacle since he see it on a website the first night we were here.  So we set off with map in hand to find the start of the track.  Unfortunately due to powerful and dangerous weather they had in this area last year, the road we had planned to take was closed half way.  We did however find a short walking track to Silverband falls.

After a few photo’s we decide to try a different route and stopped of at the tourist information to get some details.  This is were we got the following description of the walk James so desperately wanted to do;

Distance: 4.2km return (not to bad)
Time: 1.5 – 2.0
Elevation change: 110 metres (bugger)
The track to this famous peak involves rock steps, slippery track surfaces, several water crossings, and some rock hopping. Starting at the car park , follow the track through rocky woodland . From here track climbs steeply along the ridge all the way to the Pinnacle. Return via the same track.”

At this point I started to worry. However we had packed the rucksack for all weather types, had water and food, so we set off. The first part of the track gave us a false sense of security with it’s pretty scenery and easy gradient.  We then hit the incline and rock steps.

But we made it to the Pinnacle with it’s fantastic panoramic views over Hall’s Gap and the local dam. Even with the slight cloud cover, you could see for miles around. It was worth the burning calf muscles, sweat and energy. We sat up there for some time and lapped up the scenery around us, before descending back down to Halls Gap’s Bakery for a well deserved pie and cold drink.
